Do you guys are having some problems with the new DA 85 back there ?
We are having lot of problems, like the one you had in the EXFC, when the engine flods it self.
Now we saw that you and Gernot are using KS canisters, do you think that it can help ?
On Saturday, I saw two of my buddies trying to kick their's but without any good, also they are having A-lot of dead sticks in the air, what makes the motores very unreliable.
What do you think ?

Hmmm, ive had both good and bad from mine.
For power, its great, it has loads, loosing the weight in the nose means that it isnt far off the go of Jen's Yak on a DA100 on pipes with Vess 28A. Im running a Mej 27x10TH on Zimmerman pipe, KS header. Turning it at about 6300rpm i think. Running a 1600mAh lipo through an emcotec mag reg
It has the update and its pretty good for vibes, and noise on the zimm is good too. Thats the good parts, now the bad.....
1. Its very very easy to flood, if it doesnt start start within a few flicks its easy to fix by pulling the plug out and watch the fuel pour out. The engine itself is pretty prone to flooding, adding to the fact the cylinder is at the bottom it just siphons out!
2. set the idle high! I crashed a few weeks ago (thats why my canopy was broken when i arrived to the EXFC) when i came out of an outside loop at idle, very large and very low, pushed into a lomkevac (or however i spell it) and the engine stopped dead, 15 foot, zero airspeed. I think a long idle, followed by a high G push out meant that it just couldnt keep the revs up. This also happened at the EXFC in the evening.
3. Dont try lean out the idle too much, the engine will cut pretty much instantly when the engine is lean. Keep it rich and live with the burbling.
4. No point trying to tune the mid range, it will always be rich, no matter what you do.
Apart from those i really like my engine, its got plenty of power, transition is good, not at all peaky either. I have only flown electric for over 4 years, so i know a thing or two how linear a throttle should be, and the Zimm can feels pretty good to me! not touched the throttle curve one bit.
No idea why your friends are having theirs cutting, when does it happen?

Wow Ian that was a very well said answer
So Eliad and Yon what do you think ?
Well, if you are going to reply you might as well make it a long one :D
The other thing that confused us loads when we first got the engine, the needles are the opposite way around to the DA100 and 150, high end is rear low end is front. that confused us for a while!! i got the engine second hand so i didnt have instructions.
the other thing that has annoyed me with my engine is the front bearing has just failed on me, so that needs to go back to tony clark in german :(
I'm real tempted to try a vess prop, i guess a 27A would be the one to use? anyone got experience?

I did not get cut even once with my engine just once who swept low.:(
My problem was a vibration but I solved the problem. The company did not put enough glue in the plane's connections.

Hi All
I have not had any problems with mine exept those wich were caused by my self. The fuel line including the fuel tank was not set properly. After few flights I had some dead sticks but after I fixed this problem the engine started to work perfect.
I can even tune it for no burbling at idel and mid range but in this case it runs too lean especially when inverted and the transition is bad. By enriching the low end the transition becomes good but it starts burbling at 1/4 - 1/3 trotle and it sounds very very bad. But as I had understand from some guys we have no choice and we have to live with burbling :)))
I have another question for you Ian . Maybe you know what is the maximum no damage temperature for this engine?
Thank you
Alex
Alex, i have no idea! I live in england, we dont worry about temperature :D Thats certainly a DA or Tony Clark question
